Gone are the days when the big liners sailed into Sydney Harbour on a regular basis bringing passengers from the other side of the world, before they turned round and sailed back. These days cruising is a holiday rather than form of transport. Most cruises take place in summer when almost every day of the week a liner will glide into Sydney Harbour as the sun rises - often only staying until sunset before gliding out again. Cruise destinations today include many exotic and exciting places from Antarctica to Alaska and some destinations have shorter seasons than others. Each destination has a peak season when it may be necessary to book many months in advance in order to get the cabin you want on the boat you fancy.  There are times when bookings are not so heavy and some of the best deals can be found in the Caribbean just before Christmas or Alaska in early May.
